General Questions

Q. How many hours do I need to volunteer?

Volunteers will be asked to commit to a minimum of 12 hours from March 4th – 10th, 2012. However, if you are looking to give more time you are encouraged to contribute as much as you can.

Q. Can youth volunteer for the Games?

Yes; prospective volunteers who are aged 14 as of December 31st, 2011 will be eligible to volunteer for the Games.

Q. What happens if I forget my user ID or password?

Q. Will my personal information be stored securely?

Yes; a database of volunteer information will be maintained by the 2012 Arctic Winter Games Host Society who will ensure that the information is used only for the purposes of which is was collected for (i.e. screening, assignment & scheduling).

Q. How will volunteer applicants be screened?

Volunteers aged 18 or older as of December 31st, 2011 are required to complete both a Criminal Records Check and a Vulnerable Sector Check.

Volunteers aged 14-17 as of December 31st, 2011 are required to have their parent or guardian submit a parental consent form on their behalf.

Once these forms are downloaded, you can drop them off at the 2012 Arctic Winter Games headquarters. Our headquarters are open from 8:30 – 4:30 Monday to Friday and is located at:

Q. Do I need to bring anything else with me when I drop off the Criminal Record Check forms?

Yes, when bringing in your Criminal Record Check form, please remember to bring two pieces of government issued identification (i.e. Driver’s Licence, Health Card, Passport etc...) please note that one of these pieces of ID must be photo ID.

Q. Why do I have to submit a Criminal Records Check?

In order to ensure a safe environment for all volunteers, participants and spectators; all volunteers are required to undergo the Criminal Records Check process. This process is coordinated through the RCMP.

Q. Are there costs associated with having a Criminal Records Check processed?

The RCMP has waived the cost to process the Criminal Record Check forms. 

There are some volunteers who may be asked to submit their fingerprints for their records check. If you are asked to do this, you will require a letter from the Host Society to confirm you are a volunteer with the 2012 Arctic Winter Games to waive the costs of fingerprinting.

Q. What if I have already completed a Criminal Records Check for my employment or for previous volunteer work?

If you have the original copy of a Criminal Records Check and a Vulnerable Sector Check that was processed after September 1st, 2010, you are able to forego the Criminal Records Check process.

To forego this process; bring your original Criminal Records Check forms into the 2012 Arctic Winter Games Head Quarters, your records check forms will be subject to the review of the Host Society.

Q. I am a youth volunteer; will I have to complete the Criminal Records Check process?

No; volunteers under the age of 18 as of December 31st, 2011 are not required to submit a Criminal Records Check. However, these volunteers will be required to have their parent or guardian submit a Parental Consent form on their behalf.

Q. I cannot open the Criminal Records Check and/or Parental Consent form; how can I get a copy of it?
